[Sea route: Hong Kong to Macau]

There are two ways to get from Hong Kong to Macau: by sea using a turbojet or by land using a bus.

turbojet
High-speed ferry services operate between Hong Kong (Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal) and Macau (Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal or Taipa Ferry Terminal), with a journey time of approximately 1 hour.

Cotai Water Jet
The high-speed ferry between Hong Kong (Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal) and Macau (Taipa Ferry Terminal) takes approximately one hour.

[Sea route: Hong Kong (Hong Kong International Airport Skypier) → Macau]

It operates an airport route connecting Taipa Ferry Terminal and Hong Kong International Airport Sky Pier, making it convenient for people who want to visit both Hong Kong and Macau from Japan.

A word from the editorial department

👍Tickets may be included in your hotel stay, and there may be various promotions available depending on the season, so check what is available first. If you are prone to motion sickness, we recommend taking motion sickness medicine beforehand. As the ferry enters Hong Kong Bay from Macau, the waves get higher and the ferry rocks, which can make you feel sick. However, the boat ride is only about an hour, so it goes by in a flash. If you are prone to seasickness, it is said that sitting in the middle of the boat will increase stability.

[From Hong Kong by land]

With the opening of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, travellers can now easily access Macau. Shuttle buses are available to cross the bridge.

Shuttle bus
Shuttle buses operate between Hong Kong and Macau immigration facilities.

After arriving in Macau via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, travellers can take a taxi or local bus (lines 101X and 102X) to reach the city centre.

Cross-Boundary Bus
The cross-border bus is a scheduled service that connects designated bus stops in Hong Kong and Macau.

It is convenient because it stops at major hotels in Macau. If you are using the bus, it is best to arrive 30 minutes before departure. Also, the size of the luggage that can be checked in is limited. For example, for One Bus, it is up to 56cm x 36cm x 22cm.

The editorial staffHong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge Shuttle BusI used it!

Experience report: I went to Macau by bus! It's very easy, so please use it as a reference.

This time, to prevent my family from getting seasick, we used the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge Shuttle Bus, which runs between the immigration facilities in Hong Kong and Macau. This bus runs over the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, which opened in 2018. This bus runs from the Hong Kong Port. (By the way, to get to the Hong Kong Port, you need to take a bus from Hong Kong Airport, but it turned out that Uber was cheaper than the Airport Express fare for my family to Hong Kong Airport. We called an Uber and were able to go directly and comfortably from our apartment to the Hong Kong Port.)

If you have a Hong Kong ID, you can go through the automated gate in the back of the picture. This is the same one you use when entering and leaving the airport.

Next, buy a bus ticket from the ticket machine (you can also buy it at the counter). Adults pay HK$65 one way (free for children under 12, half price for children under 120 and under 65cm tall, over XNUMX, and people with disabilities).

Once you buy your ticket, follow the directions to Macau and you will arrive at the bus stop. It's easy to follow, so you won't get lost. There are convenience stores on the way to the bus.

There are many gold buses parked here. Buses are assigned depending on how crowded the bus is, so you just have to wait in line. Buses run 24 hours a day, with 10-minute intervals during peak hours and 15-XNUMX minute intervals during normal times, so you shouldn't have to wait too long to get on.

The view from the bus

After about 40 minutes on the bus, we arrived at the immigration facility in Macau. The bus was traveling over the world's longest sea bridge (there was an undersea tunnel along the way), so there was very little shaking on the bus and I didn't get carsick.

After getting off the bus, go through Macau immigration and then take a taxi or a local bus (101X, 102X lines) to the city center. If you take a local bus, you should buy a Macau Pass instead of an Octopus Pass, as you cannot use one. There is a convenience store inside the immigration facility, so you can buy one there.

Macau bus station

It was easier than I thought, so I thought it would be fine for a day trip. I think it would be easy to go if I just wanted to eat some Portuguese food, go to the spa, or go to the casino.
