In this column, I introduce some things I found in Hong Kong, tried, and found to be quite good.
Hello everyone! The cool thing I'd like to introduce to you today is a book.
Written by Long Hair GlassesA book on Chinese medicine that will make your mind and body healthy just by reading it(Yamato Shobo)
About a year ago, Hong Kong LEIDiscussion on YouTube and FacebookMr. Long Hair and Glasses, an international Chinese medicine specialist with whom I had the opportunity to work, has just published a book, so I immediately read it.
When Long Hair and Glasses was in his 20s, he was worried and his health was affected by an unreasonable diet, but his life was saved by the power of Chinese medicine and herbal medicine (Chinese medicine), which was also a family business. After that, he recovered and even obtained a qualification as an international Chinese medicine specialist. He declares that "It is the wisdom of Oriental medicine rooted in everyday life in Hong Kong that made me who I am today."
His book talks not so much about traditional Chinese medicine, but about the wisdom of Oriental medicine that anyone can easily put into practice, and that is still alive and well in Hong Kong households today. It talks about the idea that seasonal ingredients and foods can also be used as medicine, the flexible and indomitable mentality of Hong Kong people that he calls "demonic mentality," and the idea of "heaven and man are one," which says that humans are alive as part of nature. This book introduces many realizations for daily life that will help people live healthily.
This book teaches the very foundations of traditional Chinese medicine, such as the concepts of "qi, blood, and water" and the "five internal organs," but what is particularly striking is the word "yosei," which appears many times throughout the book. One might imagine that yosei is something you do only when you're sick, but Long Hair and Glasses says that to stay healthy in body and mind, you need to take care of yourself on a regular basis. Listen to your body and don't ignore it. Incorporate foods, methods, and ways of thinking that can replenish areas that are likely to become unwell into your daily life. Even the condition of "pre-illness," which is known in Japan these days as a state of general unwellness, can be improved by changing your daily habits and taking care of yourself.
For example, my Hong Kong mother-in-law always puts yin and yang ingredients into the medicinal soup she makes. She also puts in two types of carrots and apricot nuts, making them yin and yang, to create a balance. She doesn't eat raw fish, which cools the body. When I was pregnant, she kept a close eye on me to make sure I didn't eat bananas, which also cool the body. On cold days, she makes brown sugar ginger soup with black sesame paste and rice cakes for dessert, which is full of things that warm the body. All of these little pieces of knowledge are passed down from parent to child within the home.
From my personal experience, when I collapse due to fatigue, my condition is often quite bad, and it takes time and money to recover. I regret that I didn't notice the signs of fatigue or stress, or that I deliberately turned a blind eye, but it's too late now. That's why I realized that it's important to take care of yourself on a daily basis, as Mr. Long Hair and Glasses says, which is easy to do, in order to prevent this from happening.
Also, Mr. Long Hair and Glasses said that when you're not feeling well, it's better to think of subtraction instead of addition, as it's better to think that you're taking in too much of something, rather than that you're lacking something. Indeed, I stopped eating wheat and milk, and my migraines, which were so bad I couldn't go out without carrying medicine with me, completely disappeared. It's a method that doesn't cost any money and you can do it while listening to your body.
This book contains many topics that are relevant to Hong Kong people, and also contains a lot of psychological advice that can be easily applied to everyday life. If you read the book, you will surely feel that what he is saying is close to home, so I would like people living in Hong Kong to order a copy and try it out.Books on Chinese medicineRead " and start taking care of your health.
