There were surprisingly many rainy days this summer. On those weekends, my favorite thing to do was to take a bus trip without a specific destination in mind. For me, riding the bus for an extended period is the best way to spend a day off.
On a rare Sunday in early August, the weather forecast was for sunny skies, and someone invited me to go eat some bento noodles, which I had had while traveling for the first time in a while, so that's how our destination was decided.
Even if you're just going out, when you think about where to go, "what to eat" is also an important deciding factor. When did I eat that beef noodle dish? I'm supposed to be confident in my memory, but I actually didn't remember it at all. But I remember the place perfectly.
I went there when I was traveling, so it must have been about 4 or 5 years ago. I would occasionally go there by bus, but this was the first time I've been there since I moved here.
The location is Yasato in Yuen Long, and the destination is at Shangcun General Station. On the map, it is written as Yasato Kinden, but I don't really know the exact location.
It is located in this place. You can only get there by car or bus.
Well, how did I get there? I wanted to try a different route for once, so I took the 930X from Wan Chai to Tsuen Wan West, then changed to a bus bound for Sheung Kon at Russin Plaza. This bus was a rare single-seater and old model, so the seat design was dotted with the now-rare Kowloon bus character.

The old model of the Kubazai seat. This type is also cute.
We set off immediately, taking the Tsuen Kam Highway through Cheun Long Village and Tai Mo Shan..On the way, I passed by Kawaryu Village, famous for its dim sum and watercress fields, but I haven't been there since I moved here, so I thought I should get up early and visit the filming locations. I also encountered a wild boar on the way, and enjoyed nature for the first time in a while.
When I looked outside, I saw a wild boar walking around.
The view towards Yuen Long between the trees is also spectacular.
Anyway, we arrived at our destination in about 30 minutes. The moment we got off the bus, the first thing that caught our eye was a shop with many steamed baskets of dim sum.
"Huh? I wonder if there was a shop like this?" I wondered as I looked around, savoring the atmosphere after a long time, but perhaps it was bad timing the last time I was here, as most of the shops connected to it were closed, so I didn't remember it very well.
The steamers caught my eye and I was sucked in.
As soon as I saw the steamer, I remembered that I haven't had dim sum for a while. And... I thought, wouldn't it be great to have dim sum in a place you don't see in this city? I was drawn in and went in. Right, it said restaurant (if you look closely, it says teahouse), so I wondered if they serve dim sum.
It had been a while since I'd been there, and it was impressive to see the kind atmosphere I like and the friendly Hong Kong guys all peacefully enjoying a weekend afternoon.
We sat on the outside, but the inside is also very quaint and nice.
Once again, while I was enjoying the sight, the waiter took care of me in many ways, saying "You can only try this here!" and "Just try the things I recommend" (lol), and I was able to try some rare dishes, so my heart and stomach were full.
Based on the old man's explanation that it's rare to sell them these days, I picked up the bottom right "Quail Egg Grilled Snacks"(Quail egg shumai)" and top left "Dry steamed beef".
The weather was so nice that I even had some barley tea.
At the end, we were told "If you're going to come, you should have come earlier! But today you're lucky", and it seemed like it was almost closing time (I looked at the time and it was just before 15pm), so I decided I'd have to get up early again and try again for revenge.
It seems like a lot of Japanese people go there, so when I see it later on social media, I feel like I want to try this and that! So I'm waiting for the right opportunity to go again.
The store we visited this time was "Zhao Li Hotel", 4th corner, Jintian Highway, 8th Village, Yuen Long.
My lovely old men cleaning the stand where the steamer was placed.
This day was another great encounter. Thank you to the old man at Zhaoli Chinese Restaurant for a great weekend!

I first visited Hong Kong before the handover in 1996. A few years ago, I fell in love with Hong Kong, and in 2020, I decided to move there alone. Even in the midst of COVID-XNUMX, I'm enjoying my time here with my self-satisfied level of Cantonese and a cheerful attitude, with the motto of "act immediately when you think of something." My hobbies are watching Hong Kong movies from start to finish, traveling, and taking buses to the last stop. I post my daily Hong Kong updates on Instagram.
