2024, which kicked off with a bang with Mirror's world tour, has come to an end in the blink of an eye, and 2025 has begun. There were a lot of Mirror-related events during the New Year holidays, but the last event of 12 with all 2024 members was the "CHILL CLUB Thai Pop Festival Event 12" held on December 20th. This was a dream collaboration between popular musicians from Hong Kong and Thailand. It was exciting just to see Mirror perform, but it also had the added benefit of being able to enjoy the Thai music scene, which is rarely seen. There was another attraction to this event. The event itself was a test for a new event venue to be opened in the Kai Tak area, which is currently under development.

Some people were excited, saying, "We paid a lot of money for the tickets and now we're being used as test materials!", but this is an experience you don't get often. We probably won't have another chance to see government officials taking notes on our behavior in a brand new, hot, shiny venue again. I went to the concert with the hopeful expectation that if the kagami powders' behavior is accurately recorded and reflected in improvements to the venue's management, the venue will be custom-made to Kagami powder's tastes. In fact, the guidance from the station to the venue and movement within the venue were smooth and problem-free. There was a free water server installed in the venue, there were plenty of cafes and convenience stores, and there was no waiting time for the toilets, so it was quite satisfying. It was about a 10-minute walk from the station, and the fact that there was a shopping mall next door was also a plus. On the other hand, the fatal problem was the sound, and I felt that this needed to be significantly improved before the opening of the actual performance.
The venue for this event, Kai Tak Arena, is part of Kai Tak Sports Park, which was built on the site of the old Kai Tak Airport, which is steadily being developed. Until 1998, this was Hong Kong International Airport, where planes from all over the world landed. This airport was known for its hectic schedule and its unique location adjacent to a residential area. Many people may have experienced landings that seemed to pass through residential houses in the past.

By the way, the name of this land "Kai Tak" was originally taken from the names of two Hong Kong people, Mr. Chi and Mr. Tak. Mr. Chi's real name was "Ho Chi". He was a capable man who studied in Hong Kong and the UK and obtained a medical license and a lawyer's license. With his clear mind, he was a lawyer, a doctor, and even a businessman, and he is a person who often appears in the history of Hong Kong during the British occupation. In 1912, he and one of his sons-in-law, Mr. Tak, founded a company called "Kai Tak Business Limited", which is the origin of the name of the land "Kai Tak". The purpose was to reclaim and develop the current Kai Tak area facing Kowloon Bay. However, after five or six years of reclamation, the business failed. The company was liquidated, and the land and reclamation work were taken over by the government.
The land was then used as an airport in the 1920s, and during the Japanese occupation in the 1940s, it was used as a military airport, before being transformed into the Kai Tak Airport (Hong Kong International Airport) that we all fondly remember.

Such an airport with such a long history is being redeveloped, but what is interesting here is He Qi's vision. In 1912, his plan was to "build a residential area like a garden on this land, with housing and recreational facilities, and rent it to individuals." This has been realized in 2025, about 100 years after the site was used as an airport! Is this just a coincidence, or did He Qi have an outstanding vision for the future? At the end of 2024, He Qi may have been watching the Mirror concert from heaven and was delighted that his dream had come true after 100 years.
Mr. He Qi, Mirror has made your dream come true!
And best of luck in 2025, Mirror!
